The Donnersberghalle as a Venue

The Donnersberghalle in Rockenhausen is a modern, spacious, and well-lit multi-purpose hall. It is the perfect setting for an indoor autumn market, providing a weather-proof environment when conditions outside become unpredictable. The hall accommodates around 60 exhibitors, offering plenty of room for visitors to browse comfortably, along with a dedicated catering area.

Curatorial Approach

The market is defined by its careful curation: each craft is represented only once. Instead of having five jewelry designers side-by-side, you will find one selected jewelry designer, one ceramicist, one glass artist, one leather worker, and so on. This selection ensures a diverse experience for visitors and fair conditions for all exhibitors.

Organizers

The event is hosted by the City of Rockenhausen and organized by the volunteers of Team 4 of the Local Development Department. This team manages events, culture, art, and markets in Rockenhausen, including the Gourmet Market, the GartenZeit, and the Plant Exchange. The Arts and Crafts Market has been running since 1994 and continues to grow every year, recently expanding to the upper floor of the hall to meet the high demand from exhibitors.

Exhibitor Spectrum

The range of crafts on display is vast: jewelry made from silver, gold, natural elements, and recycled materials; ceramics ranging from functional tableware to sculptures; glass in the form of jewelry, decorative objects, or lamps; textiles including handmade clothing, scarves, and home décor; woodwork such as turned items, bowls, and toys; and leather goods like bags, belts, and accessories. You will also find felt, paper, soapstone, and various other materials.

Market Atmosphere

The atmosphere is refined, calm, and focused on the exchange between exhibitors and visitors. The artisans are happy to engage in personal conversations, explain their techniques, answer questions, and even customize products upon request. The market is an ideal destination for finding Christmas gifts, unique personal purchases, or simply enjoying the beauty of fine craftsmanship.

Side Programme

Walking through the hall, visitors can watch some of the exhibiting artisans at work over their shoulder. Two regional book publishers also offer book-signing on site for books purchased there. For a break, the traditional "Handwerks-Café" and a bistro serve Flammkuchen and ROKWEIN. Children can take part in the "Kunsthandwerk für Kinder" craft activity, and visitors are invited to combine their visit with a walk through the town centre, whose museums are also open that weekend.
