Jüterbog — Medieval City with Rockabilly Summer

Jüterbog is a town of just under 12,000 inhabitants in the southern Brandenburg district of Teltow-Fläming, known for its completely preserved city wall with three city gates and the former Franciscan monastery. This very Mönchenkloster from the 13th century is now the Mönchenkloster Cultural Quarter — concert hall, museum, city library, and tourist information center all in one. The Klosterhof (cloister courtyard) serves as an atmospheric open-air stage in the summer.

Big Fat Shakin' — Berlin Rockabilly with Vintage Sound

The four-piece band Big Fat Shakin' is a fixture in the Berlin and Brandenburg Rockabilly scene. Their lineup — double bass, saxophone, Gretsch guitar, and vintage drums — embodies the classic sound of the 1950s. The multi-part vocals with rotating lead singers are reminiscent of the Doo-Wop and Rockabilly tradition. Their 2019 album „Woatamakaa” mixes their own compositions with Soul, Rock, and Swing — the band is considered one of the best German Rockabilly acts with original repertoire.

Full Dose of Rock 'n' Roll in the Cloister Courtyard

The summer concert on Saturday, July 4, 2026, is an annual tradition at the Cultural Quarter. Admission is at 6:30 PM, and the concert begins at 8:00 PM. The program offers a full dose of Rock 'n' Roll — from 50s standards (Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly) to Surf classics (The Ventures) and contemporary interpretations in the Rockabilly style. A rotating lead vocal approach keeps the set varied for over two hours.

Atmosphere and Refreshments

The medieval cloister courtyard offers an unusual backdrop for Rockabilly — the old brick walls enhance the sound, while the atmosphere feels intimate. Cocktails and refreshments are available in the courtyard. Admission is €25; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis — a picnic atmosphere is explicitly encouraged.
