Political Punk, Hardcore, and Metal Festival in Saarlouis City Park
Rock gegen Rechts Saarlouis is one of the longest-running anti-fascist music festivals in the greater region. In the Saarlouis City Park, in the middle of the fortress city in western Saarland, bands from the heavy music scenes – punk, hardcore, metal, crossover – have been meeting on a free stage for years. The organizer is the Netzwerk für Demokratie und Courage Saar e.V., a volunteer initiative that finances the festival exclusively through donations.
The decision against ticket sales is programmatic: anti-fascist culture should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their wallet. Instead, the festival is financed entirely through crowdfunding (Betterplace), club donations, and volunteers. Those who consume on-site – beer, soda, bratwurst – support the next edition.
The line-up traditionally mixes local Saarlouis and Saarland bands with national guests from the punk and hardcore scene. Over the years, acts like A Traitor like Judas, Additional Time, and Breakdowns at Tiffany's have graced the stage. The final line-up is usually announced late, shortly before the festival, as many bands confirm their participation voluntarily and at short notice.
In addition to the main stage in the Wallgraben, there are information booths from local clubs, trade unions, and anti-fascist groups, as well as workshops and discussions. The festival is part of a broader day of action against the far-right in the Saarlouis district and networks with similar initiatives in Saarbrücken, Trier, and Forbach.
Saarlouis, as a fortress city with a French history, shaped by the steel industry (Ford, Dillinger Hütte) and an active trade union and subculture scene, has always been a stage for political discourse. Rock gegen Rechts stands in this tradition: loud, clearly positioned, supported by volunteer commitment, right in the heart of the Saarlouis district.
Preparations for the 2026 edition have been underway since winter via the Network for Democracy and Courage Saar. The crowdfunding campaign on Betterplace is live, and the line-up will be gradually announced on social media channels in the weeks leading up to the festival.
The complete line-up will be published in early summer 2026 on the festival's Facebook page and the Betterplace project page. Bands or activists can contact the Network for Democracy and Courage.
