Middle Franconian Latin Festival
Ritmos Latinos – Latin Festival Schwabach was first held in 2013 and has developed over more than a decade into one of the most important festivals for Latin American music in Middle Franconia. The organizer is the Cultural Office of the City of Schwabach, which enhances Schwabach's summer culture with an international flair through the festival.
Courtyard of the Old German High School
Since 2022, the venue has been the courtyard of the Old German High School at Wittelsbacherstraße 1. The historic courtyard, enclosed by tall school buildings, forms an exceptionally atmospheric open-air stage: a compact concert arena with excellent acoustics, evening lighting, and a summer ambiance where the tropical sounds of Latin American music have a particularly intense effect.
Musical Spectrum
The festival program ranges from classic Salsa orchestras with sophisticated arrangements to Cumbia and Bolero, as well as Brazilian Bossa Nova and folk-fusion formats. The bands come from all over Latin America and the German Latin scene – musicians from Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, and Spain, as well as German Latin ensembles with supra-regional reputations, have often been represented.
Free Dance Workshops
A special feature of the festival is the free dance workshops before the concerts – designed for concert-goers with a valid ticket. A professional dance instructor (often Carlos Cordero Diaz) introduces the basic steps of Salsa, Cumbia, and Bachata, allowing visitors to dance to the bands' music afterward. This combination of concerts and dance classes has made the festival a platform for the Middle Franconian Salsa scene.
Schwabach – More Than Just the "Gold City"
Schwabach is an independent city with around 41,000 inhabitants in Middle Franconia (State of Bavaria), south of Nuremberg, and part of the Nuremberg Metropolitan Region. Known as the "Gold City" thanks to its gold leaf production, Schwabach has a diverse cultural scene – the Latin Festival showcases the international dimension of this scene. The compact Schwabach city center with its historic market square, the town churches of St. Johannes and St. Martin, and the City Museum provides a further backdrop.
Tickets Usually Sold Out
Due to the limited capacity of the courtyard, festival concerts regularly sell out early. Advance tickets are available via reservix.de and selected ticket outlets. Remaining tickets may be available at the box office if concerts are not sold out. In case of bad weather, concerts will be moved to alternative venues (Bürgerhaus am Königsplatz, Markgrafensaal).
