Regional Farmers' Market with Felgenfest in the Weserbergland
The farmers' market brings together farmers and manufacturers from the Weserbergland on a Sunday. Stalls are set up around the market square, in Klosterstraße, and in the surrounding alleys. The offerings include fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, cheese from regional farm dairies, honey directly from the beekeeper, sausage and meat specialties, wood-fired bread, jams, liqueurs, and wine specialties from the nearby Weser region.
The Felgenfest honors a special craft tradition in the Weserbergland. The 'Felge' – the wooden rim form from the wheelwright and cartwright craft – is a symbol of rural craftsmanship of past times. Demonstrations of old professions, blacksmithing, wheelwrighting, woodturning, and basket weaving are presented in the market square. The Felgenfest provides the cultural-historical accent alongside the culinary offerings.
The historic town of Rinteln is located on the Weser riverbank and, with its well-preserved Renaissance and Weser Renaissance old town, is one of the most beautiful ensembles in the Schaumburg region. The market square with the town hall and surrounding burgher houses forms an impressive backdrop for the farmers' market. The monastery church and the Eulenturm (Owl Tower) are just a few steps away – destinations for a short city walk between market strolls.
Live music with regional bands, a children's program with craft activities and an animal show, coffee and cake served by local associations, and themed tours through the old town round off the Sunday. The day is designed to be family-friendly, and admission is free.
Market stalls open in the morning. Farmers from the Weserbergland and Schaumburg region bring their seasonal products to the city: asparagus, strawberries, young vegetables, and early summer specialties. Manufacturers also present jams, liqueurs, cheeses, and handmade specialties.
The Felgenfest commemorates the traditional crafts of wheelwrights and cartwrights. Demonstrations, tools, and crafted items are displayed in the market square – a piece of living cultural history of the Weserbergland.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the City of Rinteln in the spring. The structure will follow the proven key points of previous years:
