Start of Advent in Reimsbach

Reimsbach is one of nine districts of the municipality of Beckingen in the district of Merzig-Wadern, located about 15 km east of Merzig and 10 km west of Saarlouis. With around 2,800 inhabitants, the village retains its rural character – and celebrates this during the Advent season with its own Christmas market, which has been a tradition for decades.

Association Market with Social Commitment

What makes the Reimsbach Christmas market special is its community and charity character: the local associations (sports club, women's choir, parish council, local history society) run all the stalls themselves. Handmade Advent decorations, arrangements, crafts, and culinary delicacies are sold. Part of the proceeds goes to a social cause each year – often to aid projects for children or elderly fellow citizens.

Mulled Wine, Baked Apples, and Saarland Specialties

Culinary delights await visitors, including Saarland classics such as 'Hokäs' on rye bread, bratwurst, crêpes, candied almonds, potato pancakes with apple sauce, and of course, mulled wine in several varieties. Punch (non-alcoholic for children) and homemade cake are also offered.

Visit from St. Nicholas and Musical Program

The highlight for the younger visitors is the visit from St. Nicholas, who traditionally visits the village square on Saturday or Sunday afternoon and distributes small gifts. The market is accompanied musically by the Reimsbach music association and choirs from the surrounding area – a typical scene of the Saarland Advent season.

Beckingen and the Saar Loop Region

Beckingen is located in western Saarland, near the Saar Loop – one of Germany's most famous natural landmarks. Visitors to the Reimsbach Christmas market can combine their day with a walk along the Saar Loop (Cloef viewpoint) or a visit to nearby Mettlach (Villeroy & Boch).
