Living Customs

Harvest festivals have a long tradition in Lower Saxony. In Ramlingen-Ehlershausen, it is preserved with particular care and voluntary commitment. The festival is not a folkloric staging but a grown, lived custom – supported by farmers, community associations, the fire department, and villagers of all generations.

Program Structure

Harvest King and Queen

The focus is on the harvest king and queen, who act as guardians of agricultural tradition and are carried in the parade. The election takes place annually.

Parade with Decorated Harvest Wagons

The centerpiece of the festival is the parade through the village: Decorated harvest wagons with straw figures, ears of grain, flowers, and colorful ribbons are pulled by tractors or horses. Farmers, association members, and children in traditional costume accompany the parade. Music bands provide the rhythm.

Ramlinger Erntesuppe

A special feature is the Ramlinger Erntesuppe – a hearty stew traditionally served at the festival. The recipe is guarded by the Erntefest committee; the stew is a symbol of the richness of the harvested crops.

Festival Evening and Dance

The evening concludes with a festival celebration featuring beer, hearty specialties, live music, and dancing. A communal winding down in a convivial atmosphere.

Ramlingen-Ehlershausen

Ramlingen-Ehlershausen is one of the villages of the town of Burgdorf. The village is located about 7 km north of Burgdorf and is accessible via the L 384 / L 410. Ehlershausen train station (S-Bahn S 6) is located in close proximity.
