3.2 km open water swim across the Zwischenahner Meer — August 8, 2026, 9 AM
The Zwischenahner Meer, with a diameter of almost 5 kilometers, is one of the largest lakes in Lower Saxony — and a first-class area for open water swimmers. The event Quer durchs Meer transforms this natural space into a sports arena: 3.2 kilometers from shore to shore, without a break, with support boats and refreshment stations.
The 2026 edition takes place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, starting at 9 AM. The competition is part of the Zwischenahn läuft action week, which bundles several sports events in the summer and holds them at the Zwischenahner Meer.
The 3.2 km course leads across the Zwischenahner Meer. The start and finish are typically on opposite shores, with DLRG (German Life Saving Association) safety, support boats, and timing.
The overarching action week 'Zwischenahn läuft' bundles several sports events around the lake — from the 'Meerlauf' (lake run) to the 'Bärentriathlon'. 'Quer durchs Meer' is its swimming highlight.
The program follows the key points of an open water competition:
Detailed course map, start documents, and safety briefing will be communicated in advance of the event.
