Schöneberg's Spring Start on Akazienstraße
Akazienstraße in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district is one of West Berlin's most vibrant shopping streets. For several years now, Primavera has opened the season of Schöneberg's open-air events here at the beginning of May. Over two days around Mother's Day weekend, organizers and residents transform Akazienstraße between Apostel-Paulus-Kirche and Hauptstraße into a market mile – with asparagus farmers from the Brandenburg region, Berlin nurseries, artisans, and Schöneberg's gastronomy.
Asparagus, Handicrafts, and Horticulture
Asparagus is the centerpiece: regional farms from Beelitz, Kremmen, and the Berlin green belt present their white and green spears, offer tastings, and sell freshly harvested asparagus directly from the farm. The Asparagus Queen and asparagus peelers appear in official costumes and are available for photos. In addition, the event features spring flowers, perennials, and herbs from Berlin nurseries, handicrafts – ceramics, jewelry, textiles, woodwork – and the typical Schöneberg food stalls.
Family Program
On Belziger Straße, there is a play area for children, and at Apostel-Paulus-Kirche, a playground with seating. A small stage hosts a diverse program of music, dance, and interactive children's activities. The event is deliberately designed to be accessible and family-friendly – those with strollers will find designated quiet zones.
Schöneberg May Tradition
Primavera is one of three street festivals with which MS Event Agentur enlivens Akazienstraße throughout the year: the Spring and Asparagus Festival in May, the Summer Festival in August, and the Pumpkin Festival in autumn. The event series is firmly anchored in the awareness of the Schöneberg district and regularly attracts Berliners and tourists who want to spend the Mother's Day weekend outdoors.
