Village festival above the Moselle
Poltersdorf is the lesser-known, but no less charming, district of the municipality Ellenz-Poltersdorf. While Ellenz lies directly on the banks of the Moselle and is more strongly shaped by tourism, Poltersdorf has retained its village character on the hillside above the river. The view from the village centre down into the Moselle Valley and across to the steep slopes opposite is breathtaking, making every festival visit a double delight.
The Wine and Heritage Festival on the fourth weekend of July is the most important social event of the year in the Poltersdorf district. Over three days, the festival grounds transform into a small festival mile with wine stands, a festival tent, food stalls, and a beer garden. The event is organised by the Heimat- und Weinfestverein Poltersdorf (Poltersdorf Heritage and Wine Festival Association), whose members volunteer to organise and run the festival.
The festival name “Wein- und Heimatfest” (Wine and Heritage Festival) refers to the two central themes: the wines of the Poltersdorf vintners on the one hand, and the sense of local pride and village tradition on the other. Regional bands play in the festival tent on Friday and Saturday evenings, while Sunday focuses on a traditional morning pint (Frühschoppen) with brass music. A special feature is the “Heimatabend” (Heritage Evening) at the end of the festival, where local music groups, traditional costume associations (Trachtenvereine), and singing clubs perform, celebrating the local pride of Poltersdorf residents.
The wines come from Poltersdorf's wineries and their neighbours. The focus is on Riesling, Spätburgunder, and Müller-Thurgau from the steep slopes around the village. Culinary offerings include typical Moselle festival cuisine.
The 2026 Wine and Heritage Festival in Poltersdorf runs from Friday, July 24th, to Sunday, July 26th. The festival grounds are centrally located in the village centre. The organiser is the Heimat- und Weinfestverein Poltersdorf (Poltersdorf Heritage and Wine Festival Association).
The exact 2026 programme will be published by the organiser in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
