Spring in Plauen — a city festival for 29 years

When the Vogtland spring takes its first warm breath and the shops in Plauen's city centre present their spring collections, the Plauen Spring begins. Since 1998, Initiative Plauen has combined the city festival with the Sunday shopping and a three-day open-air programme throughout the city centre. In 2026, it will be the 29th edition — again with the mix of flea market, concerts, fashion show, and family programme that defines the event.

May 8–10, 2026 — three days of spring festival

For three days, the events will be spread across several squares. The flea market will be set up on Herrenstraße and Klostermarkt, bands and DJs will play at Klostermarkt and Tunnelplatz, the main stage on Altmarkt will host the fashion show and concerts, and Nonnenturm will be the scene for open-air party atmosphere. Admission is free everywhere.

Highlight: the Beer Electric

A special feature of Plauen is the Beer Electric — a historic tram from the 1920s, converted into a mobile pub. It runs special trips through the city during every Plauen Spring — the highlight is the Mother's Day ride on Sunday, May 10th, 2026, at 3 PM. On board, you can enjoy Vogtland beer and hear little stories about the city's history. Seats are in high demand and sell out quickly.

Family programme and fashion show

Saturday is dedicated to families: the fashion show on the Altmarkt stage presents spring and summer collections from Plauen retailers, the children's programme features Clown Hajo with an interactive show, the live band "Plausibel" plays Vogtland pop and country tunes, and city tours with thematic focus run in parallel. The flower and ceramics market adds spring plants and regional pottery to the offerings.

Saxony, Vogtland, and Plauen

With around 64,000 inhabitants, Plauen is the largest city in the Vogtland district and the economic and cultural centre of the Saxon Vogtland. Known for Plauen lace (textile heritage) and its picturesque old town, the city is a major regional attraction. The Plauen Spring, alongside the Plauen Lace Festival in June, is the second major city festival of the year and is particularly popular with families from the Vogtland and Northern Bavaria.
