Pentecost in the Itzgrund: »Pfitz« as a Synonym for Party
When Bavaria enjoys its long weekends around Pentecost, the small Upper Franconian village of Großheirath has its big moment. The Landjugend Itzgrund, the local association of the Bavarian Youth Association (KLJB) and the Bavarian Young Farmers' Association, invites you every year to the Pentecost dance »Pfitz« on the Schützenplatz. Over the years, this traditional dance evening has become one of the biggest party weekends in Upper Franconia.
Two Festival Days with Different Sounds
The program focuses on two festival days with clearly defined musical roles. On Pentecost Friday, it's time for the »DJ Escalation«: DJ Fondsa and DJ Bump will bring electronic, house, and chart music to the dance floor from 8 PM – an evening specifically for the younger Pfitz generation looking for bass and long dance nights. On Pentecost Sunday, from 7 PM onwards, the Bavarian party band Radspitz, one of the best-known live acts on the South German party scene, will perform. Both days fill the Schützenplatz to the last square meter.
The Landjugend Itzgrund as Organizer
The event is organized by the Landjugend Itzgrund, based in Großheirath. They organize the entire festival on a voluntary basis: from setting up the festival tent, security, bar service, stage technology, to catering. The proceeds go towards the youth work of the Landjugend throughout the Itzgrund. Like in many places in Bavaria, the Landjugend plays a central social role here: it connects the village community, organizes club life beyond the shooting and sports clubs, and shapes the youth culture in the village.
From 16 Years Old, with Clear Rules
The event is open from 16 years of age, without exception. Young people aged 16 to 18 require a parental consent form (Erziehungsbeauftragung), as is customary for Pentecost dances in Bavaria. The clear age limit ensures that Pfitz is a must-attend event for the Coburg youth scene – turning 16 means looking forward to your first Pfitz.
Großheirath – A Village in the Itzgrund
The municipality of Großheirath, with around 2,000 inhabitants, is located between Coburg, Bamberg, and Lichtenfels in the Itz valley. The Itzgrund region is one of the most scenic areas of Upper Franconia – an important region of identity that strongly shapes the Landjugend. During the Pfitz weekend, the region becomes a meeting point for the young generation, with shuttle buses from Coburg, Bamberg, and Lichtenfels.
