Four days of open-air music festival on the green promenade — senior afternoon, flea market, and local bands
Since 1976, Stadtmarketing Coesfeld and friendly restaurateurs have organized the Pentecost Week on the green promenade along the Umflut — a watercourse that flows through Coesfeld's city center. What began as a small initiative by restaurateurs is now one of the largest open-air city festivals in Münsterland and one of the most traditional Pentecost events in North Rhine-Westphalia. The 51st edition is scheduled for 2026 — directly after the 50th anniversary in 2025.
Coesfeld is the district town of the Coesfeld district and is located in western Münsterland between Münster and the Dutch border. With around 36,000 inhabitants, it is manageable but characterized by Catholic Westphalian tradition. Pentecost is traditionally an important festival in Münsterland — Pentecost Kirmes (fair), Pentecost Schützenfest (marksmen's festival), and the Pentecost Week are classic regional dates.
The Umflut is a historic watercourse that encircles the old town of Coesfeld. The former city wall line is now a green promenade with linden trees, walking paths, and seating areas — one of the most beautiful quarters of the city. Stages, catering stands, and marquees are set up for the Pentecost Week.
What distinguishes the Pentecost Week from many commercial city festivals is its explicitly cross-generational claim: seniors on Wednesday, adults with an open-air pub quiz on Thursday, women with a flea market on Friday, families on Saturday. Everyone finds their niche, the whole city is involved.
Main sponsors are local companies that traditionally call for the Pentecost Week — Coesfeld municipal utilities, Kreissparkasse Coesfeld, local breweries. The event thus remains firmly anchored in the local community life and is not driven by the event industry.
The 2026 Pentecost Week continues the Münsterland tradition alive since 1976. Four days of program for all generations — one of the most important Pentecost events in North Rhine-Westphalia.
