Traditional Pentecost Market with 130 showmen over 1.3 kilometers of festival mile
The Pfingstmarkt Neukloster is one of the most traditional Volksfeste in Northern Germany. Its roots reach back over 140 years and are closely linked to the former Neukloster monastery and the inherited market traditions of northwestern Lower Saxony. To this day, the Heimatverein Neukloster e.V. is responsible for the organization – a major voluntary project that requires thousands of volunteer hours annually.
With around 100,000 visitors each year, the Pfingstmarkt is one of the major Volksfeste in the region. Over 130 showmen set up their carousels, rides, food, sales, and game stalls along a festival mile of approximately 1.3 kilometers. Ferris wheel, dodgems, roller coaster, throwing games, souvenir stalls – the entire spectrum of a classic fair is represented.
The highlight of the festival weekend is the traditional tapping of the first beer keg on Saturday. The mayor or another dignitary symbolically opens the beer supply before the festival tent opens its doors completely. The tapping ceremony is both a custom and a social event.
Neukloster is a district of the city of Buxtehude and is located not far from the historic center of the Hanseatic city. The Pfingstmarkt takes place on a permanent festival grounds, which becomes the scene of the largest Volksfest event in the southern Hamburg metropolitan area during the three festival days. Arrival and parking are organized by the Heimatverein in cooperation with the city of Buxtehude; arrival by public transport is possible via the S-Bahn line S3.
Three days of Pentecost in Neukloster mean full operation on a 1.3-kilometer festival mile. Carousels run, food stalls emit tempting aromas, and showmen call out to their game booths. The atmosphere is both family-friendly and exuberant.
The keg tapping ceremony on Saturday serves as both a custom and an opening. The mayor or a dignitary symbolically taps the keg before the festival tent fully opens.
The exact program and the list of showmen will be published by the Heimatverein Neukloster in the spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
