Bad Bibra's May Tradition

The Quellenfest in Bad Bibra is one of the most beautiful rural-bourgeois traditions in the Burgenlandkreis district. Bad Bibra is one of the few recognized Kneipp spa towns in Saxony-Anhalt – and the festival concept is rooted in this identity: springs, water, health, community.

The highlight of every Quellenfest is the crowning of the new Spring Queen. The outgoing queen and the Spring Princess pass on their crowns to their successors – a custom that is cherished in Bad Bibra with great seriousness and charming self-irony. In 2026, the 11th Spring Queen, Henriette Ehring, will pass on her crown.

Festival Schedule

The festival begins at 1:00 PM on the Badeplatz (spa grounds) in Bad Bibra. Mayor Frederik Sandner will open the festivities. The Landfrauen Bad Bibra and the Kneipp Association An der Finne will serve coffee and cake, and the Bibertaler Musikanten will provide musical accompaniment. At 2:00 PM, the crowning of the new Spring Queen will take place – the moving highlight of the day.

Bad Bibra in the Burgenlandkreis

Bad Bibra is located in southern Saxony-Anhalt, on the northern edge of the state of Thuringia, in the Burgenlandkreis district. Nestled in the foothills of the Finne low mountain range, with a historic town center, Kneipp facilities, and several springs. The association community 'An der Finne', to which Bad Bibra belongs, is the organizer and patron of the spring majesties.

Surroundings

For those staying longer in the region, the Quellenfest can be combined with a visit to the nearby Saale-Unstrut wine region. Naumburg with its UNESCO cathedral is 25 km to the east, and Neuenburg Castle and Freyburg are also about 25 km away. The Finne – the wooded ridge north of Bad Bibra – offers beautiful hiking trails.
