Whitsun at the Wine Fountain
Senheim is one of the most traditional wine villages in the Untermosel region and belongs to the Cochem collective municipality. The steep slopes around the village produce Rieslings of considerable minerality, and the village cultivates a vibrant festival culture that shapes social life throughout the year with numerous events centered around wine, carnival, and local traditions.
The Pfingstfest marks the start of the Mosel summer season on the first warm extended weekend of the year. Unlike the larger wine festivals later in the year, the Pfingstfest forgoes large stage constructions and festival tents. Instead, the entire town center around the wine fountain becomes the festival venue: Senheim vintners serve their wines at several stands, food stalls offer Mosel-typical specialties, and small stages provide musical accompaniment.
The wine fountain is Senheim's defining landmark and the focal point of the festival. At Whitsun, it traditionally flows with wine instead of water—a humorous nod to the village's wine-growing tradition that delights locals and guests alike. Around the fountain, people dance, sing, and raise their glasses.
The Pfingstfest is also an important meeting point for hikers on the Moselsteig trail, which passes directly through Senheim. Those using the long weekend for a stage hike will find a welcome opportunity for an evening stop in a convivial atmosphere.
Eintritt frei. Speisen, Getränke und Weinprobe vor Ort.
Getting there: By car via the B49; parking available on the outskirts of the village. By train to Cochem or Bullay, then by bus.
Admission: Free. Food, drinks, and wine tasting available on-site.
Tip: Whitsun is peak season on the Mosel—book accommodation well in advance. Can be combined with a hike on the Moselsteig trail or a boat trip.
