Low German Pentecost service and Frühschoppen in the festival tent
Pfingsten im Moor uniquely combines spiritual customs and rural celebration traditions. The service begins on Pentecost Sunday at 10 AM in the festival tent or outdoors and is traditionally held in Low German. In Berne, Pastor Ingmar Hammann has been delivering the sermon in the North German dialect for years. Low German songs, prayers, and readings give the service a special character that goes far beyond the religious dimension and represents a piece of lived local heritage.
Following the service, the Frühschoppen begins at 11 AM. Despite its North German location, it has a Bavarian flair: the Bookholzberg brass and marching band provides classic Bavarian sounds, while Weißwurst, pretzels, and Maßkrug beer complete the program. For about three hours, the festival tent transforms into a convivial meeting place for families, clubs, and guests from the entire Wesermarsch region. The atmosphere is warm and lively, without losing the contemplative character of the Pentecost days.
Pfingsten im Moor is organized by the Berne parish in close cooperation with local clubs. The event is an expression of a vibrant village community and exemplifies the connection between faith, tradition, and celebration culture in the Wesermarsch. Those who participate once often return the following year—both because of the special atmosphere in the moor and the warm welcome from the Berne hosts.
The 2026 edition follows the concept proven over many years. Pastor Ingmar Hammann will deliver the Low German sermon. The Bookholzberg brass and marching band will provide the musical accompaniment afterwards.
Pfingsten im Moor regularly attracts several hundred visitors. The mix of a church opening, hearty food, and live music is unique in the southern Wesermarsch region.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Berne parish in spring. Any adjustments due to weather or program changes will be communicated on the organizer's website.
Berne is located in the southern Wesermarsch region, easily accessible from Oldenburg, Delmenhorst, and Bremen. By car, take Bundesstraße 212. Parking is signposted near the festival grounds.
