Traditional Kirchweih in Worms' wine-growing district of Pfeddersheim
Worms-Pfeddersheim is located west of the Nibelungenstadt and forms its own wine-growing village within Worms' municipal area. Several wine-growing families manage the vineyards on the western edge of the district. This pronounced wine culture shapes not only the economy but also the festival culture of the place — starting with the regular Pfeddersheimer Market in August up to the traditional Kerb in autumn.
The Kerb — short for "Kirchweih" (church consecration festival) — is the most important folk festival in individual towns and villages in Rhenish Hesse and the Palatinate. Originally, it commemorates the consecration of the parish church, but it has developed into a multi-day district festival that combines a parade, festival tent, showmen, wine and beer stands, dance events, and a concluding "Kerbe-Vergraben" (burial of the Kerb).
The Pfeddersheimer Kerb follows this basic pattern with a distinct Rhenish-Hessian touch. Wine served by local vintners is a central element; alongside this, showmen's rides, classic catering stands, and an evening dance programme characterise the event. The highlight is often the parade of the "Kerbeborsch" (Kerb boys) and "Kerbemädchen" (Kerb girls) and the joint erection of the "Kerbebaum" (Kerb tree).
As in many of Worms' outer districts, the Kerb is an occasion where the entire community comes together. Clubs, the parish, showmen, and vintners pull together; families from the district and visitors from the surrounding area come together to experience Rhenish-Hessian festival tradition.
The Pfeddersheimer Kerb 2026 continues the centuries-old tradition of the Kirchweih. As the exact date will be published in summer, it is worth checking the event page of the City of Worms (worms.de/Pfeddersheim) in late summer.
Before the Kerb in autumn, the Pfeddersheimer Market takes place in August; in early summer and summer, wine events shape the calendar. Pfeddersheim thus experiences a dense sequence of events throughout the year.
The exact programme for 2026 will be published by the organiser in early autumn. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Worms-Pfeddersheim, town centre. Festival tent, showmen's area, and parade route in the historic town centre.
Autumn 2026 — exact date to be confirmed by the Pfeddersheim local administration in summer.
Free admission. Food, drinks, and rides at a charge.
By car via the B 47 to Pfeddersheim, parking on the outskirts. Public transport from Worms main station by local bus.
