Two days of town festival with Tänzchentee, Cucumber Queen and 24th rubber dinghy race in Jerichower Land
When the fairy lights are strung between the lime trees in the town of Gommern in Jerichower Land in mid-June and the stage is set up on the Platz des Friedens, it's time again for the town's most important Volksfest: the Gommern Town Festival. For two days, the center of the slate-mining town transforms into an open festival mile, stretching from the Platz des Friedens along Martin-Schwantes-Straße.
New since 2026 is the integration of the Gommern Cucumber Market into the town festival. The cucumber highlands around Gommern have been producing pickled vegetables for decades — and finally, this culinary specialty is getting its own stage. Highlight: the crowning of the Cucumber Queen, an ironic yet serious commitment to the regional agricultural heritage. In addition, there will be stalls with pickled cucumbers, mustard cucumbers, cornichons, and specialty products from the cucumber farmers of Jerichower Land.
Musically, the 2026 town festival will be dominated by the party band Tänzchentee — probably the best-known Mallorca cover band from Saxony-Anhalt, which has already rocked the Brunnenfest Schönebeck. Local bands, DJs, and dance groups will perform on other smaller stages. The stage program runs from 11:00 AM to 1:00 AM.
For 24 years, the town festival has been associated with a sporting and playful classic: the rubber dinghy race on Kulk Lake. Teams race against the clock in the small town lake, often in imaginative costumes. Also planned: an XXL obstacle course for children and teenagers and the traditional Wellington boot race around Kulk Lake — also a Gommern specialty. In addition, there is a large flea market.
Gommern is located in western Jerichower Land, about 20 km southeast of Magdeburg on the Elbe-Ehle lowland. The town is primarily known for its slate quarry, its moated castle, and Kulk Lake. With around 11,000 inhabitants, Gommern and the surrounding villages form one of the larger unified municipalities in the district.
The Gommern Town Festival is a town festival with personality: regionally anchored, playfully ironic, with Mallorca Schlager on stage and Wellington boot races by the water. Anyone looking for a modern East German town festival with local specialties and party atmosphere will find it here.
The 2026 edition brings a premiere and several classics: for the first time, the Gommern Cucumber Market takes place as an integrated part of the town festival — including the festive crowning of the new Cucumber Queen. In addition, the proven Gommern Town Festival highlights will take place: the 24th rubber dinghy race on Kulk Lake, the XXL obstacle course, the Wellington boot race, and the large flea market.
The party band Tänzchentee dominates musically as the headliner on the main stage at the Platz des Friedens. The festival program runs from 11:00 AM to 1:00 AM.
