Summery parish festival at the parish hall with music association and youth band
Hettstadt is located about eight kilometers west of Würzburg, at the transition from the Mainfranken region to the Spessart foothills. The Catholic parish church St. Sixtus, with its characteristic baroque furnishings, shapes the village's appearance; its patron saint's day on August 6th makes the parish known in the region. The parish festival, however, already takes place in June — as the community's summer kickoff.
The parish festival begins on Sunday afternoon around 2 p.m. Tables, umbrellas, and a small stage are set up around the parish hall and in the parish courtyard. The parish community provides the catering: bratwurst and steaks from the grill, Franconian classics, plus coffee and homemade cakes in the afternoon. In summer weather, a wonderful atmosphere in the shade of the old parish courtyard trees.
A special feature of the Hettstadt parish festival is the musical double feature by the Hettstadt Music Association: In the afternoon, the youth band plays modern pieces and creates a lively, youthful atmosphere. In the evening, the brass band takes over with traditional brass music — Franconian marches, Bohemian-Moravian polkas, popular songs. This creates a connection from the afternoon coffee to the festive evening.
The parish of St. Sixtus is part of the parish community of St. Kilian Würzburg-West in the Diocese of Würzburg. With its active community, parish council, and many volunteers, it has hosted the parish festival for years as an important meeting opportunity. The proceeds typically support parish work, youth and senior groups, and charitable projects.
The parish festival in Hettstadt is representative of the many small summer festivals that shape Franconian community life. Anyone who wants to experience Franconia beyond the big folk festivals will find themselves here: an authentic, warm afternoon in the shade of the baroque parish church, with brass music in their ears and a Franconian beer in hand.
The 2026 parish festival in Hettstadt will take place on June 28 at the parish hall and in the parish courtyard. From 2 p.m., the parish community of St. Sixtus will be there for its guests — with a charming mix of a modern youth band in the afternoon and traditional brass music in the evening.
The parish's Franconian cuisine offers bratwurst and steaks from the grill, coffee, and homemade cakes, plus beer from Würzburg and Lower Franconian breweries. The proceeds will go to the parish work of St. Sixtus parish, part of the St. Kilian Würzburg-West parish community.
Current program details (exact start times of performances, festive service) will be published in the parish newsletter of St. Sixtus parish, on st-sixtus.de, and in the event calendar of the VG Hettstadt.
Hettstadt can be reached via the A3 (Würzburg-West exit) or the B8/B27, 15 minutes from Würzburg. By public transport: City bus from Würzburg (line 27) to Hettstadt. Parking in the town center at Rathausplatz or around the parish hall.
Free admission. Food and drinks are sold at fair parish festival prices; proceeds support the parish of St. Sixtus.
The festival starts at 2 p.m. If you want to experience the youth band in the afternoon and the brass band in the evening, it's best to stay all day. Bring sun protection in case of high temperatures, a light jacket for changeable weather.
