About Freilichttheater Greußenheim
Freilichttheater Greußenheim — edition 2026
For the 2026 season, Heike Wörner has written the historical drama "Kaiser Karl kehrt zurück – Das Erbe von Gruzen"—a gripping tale of power, guilt, and hope. It will be performed from July 24 to August 2, 2026, at the Waldbühne by the Greußenheim sports field, starting at 7:30 PM each evening. Numerous local amateur actors from Greußenheim will take the stage for this production by the Vorhang auf e.V. theater association. These open-air evening performances turn the historical play into a unique community experience, with the on-site beer garden opening at 5:00 PM on every performance day.
About the story: In the year 809, the village of Gruzen suffers under famine, heavy taxes, and the iron fist of Lady Radgunde. When a secret letter reaches Emperor Charlemagne, he returns—accompanied by his daughter, Rothild. Old wounds, hidden truths, and political intrigue put the village's fate to the test.

As early as 2012, the association brought its first major historical open-air play with around 80 amateur actors – all from Greußenheim – to the stage, repeating the success in 2017. Since then, the association has performed a new historical play every two years in July/August.
