1. Triathlon-Bundesliga am Maschsee – Fun Triathlon and Olympic Distance with Start/Finish at the North Shore
The Maschsee, created in the 1930s and since then a popular inner-city water sports venue, is one of the few large urban water bodies in Germany where a full-fledged triathlon can be held. The distances can be well represented around the lake, and the connection to the city centre facilitates spectator participation and logistics.
The Hannover Triathlon offers several distances, held in parallel or staggered times:
The 1. Triathlon-Bundesliga is the highest German club league in triathlon. The teams participating in the Hannover stop come from all over Germany and compete for the championship over several race days. The Maschsee race is considered one of the attractive stops of the season – partly due to the urban atmosphere, and partly due to the high spectator turnout.
In parallel to the Bundesliga competition, the open races take place, in which hobby athletes can participate. This makes the Hannover Triathlon not only a professional event but also a mass-participation sports event. The Fun Triathlon distance allows beginners to enter the competition in a protected environment.
As in previous years, the race day is structured around the Bundesliga races, the Olympic Distance, and the Fun Triathlon. The exact start times vary depending on the distance and competition class. Several hundred participants are expected in the various disciplines.
The waters of the Maschsee are usually open for triathlon swimming in late summer, with water temperatures typically between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. Wetsuit regulations depend on the respective competition rules.
The exact 2026 programme will be published by the organiser in spring and summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
