An Anniversary Celebration
50 years of parish festival in Pachten: What began in 1976 as a small community celebration after Sunday service has become an established format in the Dillingen district of Pachten. The parish of St. Maximin Pachten has made the parish festival an institution over five decades, combining worship, communal dining, children's games, and club life into a Sunday program.
Pachten – District of Dillingen with its own History
Pachten is a district of Dillingen/Saar in the Saarlouis district with its own identity: It was an important settlement on the banks of the Saar in Roman times, and later developed into its own parish district with the parish church of St. Maximin as its center. The current church on Maximinstraße is the meeting point for the Catholic community of Pachten.
Family Service and Parish Festival
As with most Saarland parish festivals, the event is in two stages: first the family service in the parish church, then the social hours in and around the parish hall. The 50th edition on Sunday, May 31, 2026, begins at 11:15 AM – the service and the opening of the festival merge into one another.
Saarland Catering
The menu features the classics: Schwenker (grilled meat skewers), Lyoner sausage, homemade salads, coffee, and cake from the parish kitchen. Prices are moderate – the festival is not for profit, but for community life. Proceeds go to parish work, church renovations, or social projects.
Pachten in the Saarlouis District
Dillingen/Saar, with its approximately 20,000 inhabitants, is located in western Saarland on the banks of the Saar. The Pachten district is connected to the Dillingen center via the Saar bridge. The region is easily accessible via the nearby A8 motorway. Visitors to the parish festival can ideally combine it with a stroll through Dillingen's city center or a walk along the Saar.
