Traditional district festival on Pentecost in Pfaffendorf, on the right bank of the Rhine
The Pfaffendorfer Pfingst-Kirmes is one of Koblenz's liveliest district festivals, attracting visitors from across the city and the heights on the right bank of the Rhine every Pentecost. The organizer is the traditional Beautification Association Pfaffendorf e.V. (VVV), which hosts the festival in close cooperation with the St. Peter and Paul parish and numerous Pfaffendorf clubs.
The Pfaffendorf district is located on the right bank of the Rhine in Koblenz, directly opposite the old town. The Kirmes takes advantage of the festive character of the Pentecost weekend: for four days, the festival grounds transform into a meeting point for young and old. A characteristic feature is the mix of religious tradition – with the High Mass on Pentecost Sunday and the Corpus Christi procession – and an exuberant marquee atmosphere with live music late into the night.
In addition to food, dancing, and rides for children, the Kirmes has established several recurring highlights. These include the popular Beer Pong Tournament, with registration via the VVV, a Darts Competition, the grand parade through Pfaffendorf, and the morning pint on Pentecost Sunday. The Kirmes societies and clubs from Pfaffendorf work together to use the proceeds for the beautification and maintenance of the district.
The Beautification Association Pfaffendorf has existed since the 19th century and, in addition to the Kirmes, is also responsible for planting initiatives, maintaining historic wayside crosses, district tours, and cultural encounters. The Pentecost Kirmes is the most important source of income and, at the same time, the most visible symbol of the cohesion of the Pfaffendorf citizenry.
Pfaffendorf is easily accessible from Koblenz Main Station via the Pfaffendorf Bridge and city bus line 8 in just a few minutes. Those who wish to take a stroll before or after the Kirmes will find viewpoints in the district offering views of the Deutsches Eck, the Moselle River, and Ehrenbreitstein Fortress.
Pentecost 2026 falls on May 24th. The Pfaffendorfer Pfingst-Kirmes takes advantage of the extended weekend and will be held on the festival grounds from Friday, May 22nd to Monday, May 25th, 2026. The exact program for 2026 will be published by the Beautification Association Pfaffendorf in the spring. The structure will follow the proven cornerstones of previous years: musical opening, sporting competitions, religious highlights on Pentecost Sunday and the parade, followed by the closing of the Kirmes on Monday.
