Parkfest Beetzendorf

One Park, One Festival, One Region

When the midsummer sun bathes the Gutspark Beetzendorf in golden light, it's time for the western Altmark to celebrate the Parkfest. For over 60 years, a well-established festival community has gathered in the small town in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, in the state of Sachsen-Anhalt — celebrating for three days, from Friday evening to Sunday noon, right in the middle of the idyllic castle park that once belonged to the Beetzendorf manor house.

The atmosphere is classic Altmark Volksfest (folk festival) with two clearly separated program strands: party evenings with DJs and live bands on Friday and Saturday, family festival during the day with games, carousels, and food stalls, and on Sunday, the traditional Frühschoppen (morning pint) with the Beetzendorf Brass Orchestra and the cake bazaar of the Verein der Heimatfreunde Beetzendorf (Association of Friends of Local History). The program is organized by the local Karneval-Sport-Verein (KSV) (Carnival-Sports Club) in cooperation with the municipality and the local history association — a volunteer-led initiative that allows the festival to retain its original character.

Musically, the spectrum ranges from cover bands and party bands from Hannover, Magdeburg, and Hamburg to Schlager, Ostrock (East German rock), folk music, and brass music. In recent years, bands like Beat!t (Hannover, with hits from the 90s and 2000s), RedPepper, DJ Mad Music, and DJ Luuk M. have been regular guests. Saturday evening is always the musical highlight with the largest dance floor and the most visitors from the neighboring villages of Klötze, Salzwedel, Gardelegen, and Klötze.

The venue itself is a small sensation: The Gutspark Beetzendorf dates back to the 18th/19th century and belonged to the county of Bismarck-Schönhausen, the family from which Chancellor Otto von Bismarck descended. Among old oaks, beeches, and linden trees, on the shore of a small lake, the spacious park unfolds — a green festival backdrop that is second to none in northern Sachsen-Anhalt. The festival uses a section of the park near the former riding hall (now Beverhol).

A Region Between Hannover and Magdeburg

The Altmark — that is the region between Hannover and Magdeburg, vast, sparsely populated, strongly agricultural. Beetzendorf is the main town of the Beetzendorf-Diesdorf collective municipality and thus the economic and cultural center of a wide surrounding area. The Parkfest is not just a festival — it is a meeting point for an entire rural region, a social ritual that brings people together from the villages and farms.
