Annual marksmen's festival of the Rohrberg Shooting Club
Rohrberg is a small village in the Altmark district of Salzwedel, the northwesternmost district of Saxony-Anhalt. As everywhere in the Altmark, club life is firmly established here: the fire department, sports club, local history society – and the Rohrberg Shooting Club e.V., which hosts its annual Schützenfest at the shooting range once a year.
The Schützenfest follows the classic North German pattern: crowning of the king in the late morning or early afternoon, a parade through the village with brass band music, a marquee program with dancing, catering by the club, and entertainment for children. The reigning shooting king and his "entourage" wear the marksmen's chain and are officially bid farewell before the new king is proclaimed. This tradition in the Altmark dates back centuries and is – even though club membership is declining – still very much alive.
The Rohrberg shooting range serves as the club house, event venue, and meeting point all in one. During the Schützenfest, it opens its doors to the entire village community – club members and non-members, young and old residents alike. The shooting range is in operation for the competitions during the festival, and the marquee next door hosts the catering and musical program.
Schützenfeste like the one in Rohrberg are one of the defining cultural phenomena of the Altmark region in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. They are not just club festivals, but focal points of rural identity – meeting places for generations, stages for volunteers, and an occasion for citizens from neighbouring villages to drop by.
The 2026 Schützenfest in Rohrberg follows the proven program: Opening at the shooting range by the club board, crowning of the king with subsequent proclamation of the new shooting king, festival tent with catering and live music. The exact program and performing band will be published on the channels of the Beetzendorf-Diesdorf collective municipality before the festival.
Detailed program: To be published shortly before the date via the Beetzendorf-Diesdorf collective municipality.
Rohrberg is located in the Altmark district of Salzwedel, about 20 kilometers southwest of Salzwedel. By car via the B248 or B71. Public transport connections are sparse – arrival by car is recommended. Parking available at the shooting range.
Admission to the festival grounds is generally free; the marquee may have a small entrance fee for certain program items. Food and drinks are available on site for a fee.
