Three-day city festival around the castle gardens and city center of the former Reuss residence town
Greiz, in the easternmost tip of Thuringia, was the residence town of the Reuss princes of the elder line for centuries. Evidence of this can be seen today in the Unteres and Oberes Schloss, the expansive Fürstlich Greizer Park, and the historic city center. This very setting is what defines the Park- und Schlossfest: a city festival and park spectacle combined, with stages from the Burgplatz to the castle gardens and activity in the alleys of the old town.
For three days, the festival extends across several locations. The Burgplatz hosts the main stage and sales stands, while the Schlossgarten features musical matinees and concerts. The city center is spread with vendor stalls, museum presentations, and gastronomy. Over 130 exhibitors, many associations, and local businesses ensure a diverse program and the typical Greiz city festival flair.
The festival parade on Sunday afternoon is the emotional heart of the festival: around 600 participants in approximately 60 floats march through the city center starting at 1 p.m. Associations, schools, companies, traditional groups, and charitable organizations present their floats — the most beautiful ones are then awarded in the castle gardens.
A special feature of the festival: on Sunday evening, the Vogtland Philharmonie invites you to a classical evening in the Vogtlandhalle — in 2025 under the motto «Sounds of Hollywood». This evening serves as the musical counterpart to the more popular stage program outside. The festival traditionally concludes with spectacular fireworks at the Oberes Schloss around 10:30 p.m.
As in previous years, the festival spans three days with an opening evening on Friday, the main festival day on Saturday, and the parade Sunday.
The complete 2026 program booklet will be available from spring 2026 at greiz.de.
Free admission. Only the Vogtland Philharmonie concert in the Vogtlandhalle is ticketed separately.
