A festival day between town and country
Oststeinbek is located in the south of the Stormarn district, directly on the border with Hamburg. With just under 9,000 inhabitants, the municipality is manageable, but its close proximity to Hamburg-Billstedt gives it a special mix of village character and urban environment. This very mix is reflected in the annual market festival: on the one hand, a folk festival (Volksfest) with market stalls and booths, and on the other, a summer open-air event with live music until late at night.
Daytime programme
From the early afternoon, the festival grounds in the Havighorst district open their gates. Market stalls offer handicrafts, regional specialities, and sweets. For the children, there is a bouncy castle, carousels, balloon artists, and the traditional "Königskinder" game – an activity where younger guests complete tasks at various stations and can win great surprise prizes.
Evening programme
When the sun goes down, the market festival changes its colours: a live band performs on stage, the dance floor fills up, and cold drinks and hearty snacks from the grill ensure sustenance. The festival runs until late in the evening – a typical summer festival format between a village fair and a neighbourhood open-air event.
Arrival by shuttle bus
A special feature of the market festival: a free shuttle bus runs between the centre of Oststeinbek and the festival grounds in Havighorst throughout the entire festival day. The bus is barrier-free, so all guests – including older or mobility-impaired people – can easily get to and from the festival grounds.

In the late afternoon, the stage programme begins with music, and in the evening, the live programme picks up pace, the dance area opens, and the grill stands and bars operate until late at night. Getting there
Take the U-Bahn (subway) line U3 or U4 in Hamburg to Billstedt, then take bus 162 or 263 to Oststeinbek. From Oststeinbek town centre, the free shuttle bus runs to the Havighorst festival grounds. By car, take the A24 (exit Hamburg-Öjendorf) or the B5.

Tips
