Medieval Easter Knight Tournament with Easter Market on the Loreley Plateau in the UNESCO World Heritage Middle Rhine Valley
The Easter Spectacle on the Loreley is one of the most impressive medieval events in the Rhine-Moselle region. For three days, knights, jesters, artisans, and merchants transform the famous Loreley Plateau high above the Rhine into a vibrant medieval world with a knight tournament and a large Easter market.
From April 4th to 6th, 2026 (Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday), knights on horseback will compete in the grand tournament, jesters will showcase their skills, artisans will offer medieval crafts, and food and drinks based on historical recipes will provide culinary delights. Admission: Adults €15, Children €5, Costumed visitors €10, Preschoolers free.
The Easter Spectacle on the Loreley is the Easter highlight in the Rhine-Moselle region and one of the largest medieval events in Western Germany. Organized by Sündenfrei (bibow communications), an organizer specializing in historical reenactments, the event transforms the famous Loreley Plateau into a vibrant medieval world for three days.
The venue itself is part of the program: The Loreley, a 132-meter-high slate rock on the right bank of the Rhine near Sankt Goarshausen, is one of Germany's most visited tourist attractions. The legend of the singing maiden who lures Rhine boatmen to their doom with her song has inspired Heinrich Heine and countless others to literary works. The rock lies in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site "Upper Middle Rhine Valley" and offers spectacular views of the Rhine and the surrounding castles from its plateau.
On this historic ground, from April 4th to 6th, 2026, the organizers will set up their camp. At the center is the grand Knight Tournament, where skilled riders in historical armor and with weapons compete against each other on horseback. The tournaments — jousting, melee, and other medieval disciplines — are held several times a day in front of the plateau's grandstand and are the most spectacular element of the spectacle.
The tournament is complemented by a large Easter Market, where numerous merchants and artisans offer their wares: leather goods, jewelry, pottery, clothing, furs, wood carvings, books, toys, and of course, food and drinks according to medieval recipes — roasted suckling pig, lamb skewers, stick bread, mead, and spiced beer. Jesters, jugglers, fire-eaters, and musicians with hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, and shawm create a lively atmosphere. A small exhibition of historical craft techniques — blacksmithing, pottery, weaving — is also part of the program.
The spectacle is designed to be family-friendly: preschoolers have free admission, and costumed visitors pay a reduced price. Many families and groups come in historical attire and become part of the vibrant reenactment. There are also special hands-on activities for the youngest visitors.
