Traditional spring Volksfest on the Grieserwiese in Landshut
The Landshuter Frühjahrsdult looks back on a centuries-old history and is one of the most traditional folk festivals in all of Lower Bavaria. The term "Dult" refers to an annual fair with a folk festival character in the Bavarian dialect. The venue is the Grieserwiese on the Isar, located directly below the historic old town of Landshut with the visible St. Martin's Church.
The Dult combines two worlds: On the amusement Dult, beer tents, rides, and showmen ensure festive joy, while the sales Dult offers everyday goods, household items, and specialties at market stalls. A nostalgic chain carousel spins its rounds high above the Grieserwiese, and the Ferris wheel almost reaches the tower height of St. Martin's Church.
Bavarian specialties and freshly tapped beer are served in the large beer tents. The festive opening is traditionally marked by the tapping of the first keg by the mayor in front of the town hall. Reduced prices apply on family days, and fireworks over the Isar crown the festivities on Friday evenings.
The independent city of Landshut, the former residence of the Wittelsbach Dukes of Bavaria-Landshut, is one of the most beautiful cities in Lower Bavaria with its Trausnitz Castle and Gothic old town. The Frühjahrsdult and its autumn counterpart have shaped the social life of the city for generations.
The 640th Landshuter Frühjahrsdult runs from Friday, April 17, to Sunday, April 26, 2026, on the Grieserwiese in Landshut. For over ten days, the Dult offers two large beer tents, an amusement park with rides, a sales Dult with market stalls, as well as culinary classics and Bavarian specialties. The opening ceremony is the tapping of the keg on April 17 at 5 PM in front of the town hall by Mayor Alexander Putz. On both Friday evenings, fireworks will be set off starting at 9:30 PM – on April 17, the brilliant fireworks by the festival operators, and on April 24, a musical fireworks display by the market traders and showmen. A nostalgic chain carousel and a Ferris wheel shape the silhouette above the Grieserwiese.
Landshut is easily accessible via the A92 (Munich–Deggendorf) and as a railway hub. The Grieserwiese is within walking distance of the old town; city buses run from the main train station.
Admission to the Dult grounds is free. Costs are incurred for food, drinks, and amusement rides. Reduced prices apply on family days.
