Osterkirmes Kusel

The Osterkirmes Kusel is the annual spring fair of the Palatinate district town of Kusel in the West Palatinate mountain region. After the successful premiere in 2025, it will take place for the second time in 2026 from April 2nd to 12th on the Messeplatz. The Osterkirmes is therefore a comparatively young event in the Kusel festival calendar, which has quickly become a firm fixture of the town's spring offerings.

Messeplatz Kusel as a Festival Site

The Messeplatz Kusel is the central venue for major events in the district town. Several markets, festivities, and fair events take place here throughout the year. With its flat, paved area and central location in the town, it offers ideal conditions for a fair with large rides.

Fair Program

The showmen set up the classic fair attractions on the Messeplatz: rides for all age groups (chain carousel, bungee trampoline, dodgems, Ferris wheel variants, haunted house), children's carousels, candy stalls with candied almonds, chocolate fruits, and cotton candy, snack stands with bratwurst, fries, potato pancakes, and Palatinate specialties, as well as grabber, shooting, and throwing stalls.

Family Day and Fireworks

A special program highlight is the Family Day on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026: on this day, many showmen offer reduced prices, making the fair particularly attractive for families with several children. The festive conclusion on April 12th is the closing fireworks display, which rises from the Messeplatz over the district town.

Opening Hours and Good Friday

The fair has different opening hours: weekdays 1 PM to 8 PM, on weekends 1 PM to 10 PM. The fair is closed on Good Friday – out of respect for the public holiday, during which a ban on dancing and noisy events applies in many federal states.

Kusel as a District Town

Kusel is the district town of the district of the same name in the West Palatinate. With around 5,500 inhabitants, the town is manageable but significant as an administrative, educational, and shopping center for a wide surrounding area. Nestled in the hilly West Palatinate mountain region and located at the foot of the historic Lichtenberg Castle, Kusel is also a tourist gateway to the Palatinate and Saarland.
