Charity run at Rubbenbruchsee for 'Jede Oma zählt' — Anniversary edition on August 22, 2026
The Osnabrück 6-Hour Run combines popular sport and solidarity in an unusual format. Instead of fixed distances, the number of laps completed within six hours is counted. The race starts in the morning at Barenteich, with the course leading around the Rubbenbruchsee, one of the most popular local recreation areas in the 'City of Peace'. Asphalt and trail sections alternate on a scenic, largely flat route.
Every entry fee goes to the campaign 'Jede Oma zählt' by the international aid organization HelpAge Deutschland. It supports older women in crisis regions with microcredits, medical care, and educational programs. The charity aspect has been central to the 6-Hour Run since its inception and explains the steadily growing number of participants from clubs, running groups, and families.
The 10th edition on August 22, 2026, is set to be particularly festive: an expanded catering point, live music in the finish area, and a family program around the start/finish grounds. Solo runners compete individually, while teams participate as relays. Walking is explicitly welcome, as are Nordic walkers.
Around the start and finish area at Barenteich, club tents, sponsor stands, and culinary offerings invite visitors to linger. Children can play on the adjacent playground while parents or grandparents complete their laps.
With a circumference of just under three kilometers, the lake offers an ideal circuit. Shade, water for cooling off, and proximity to nature make the course attractive even in summer temperatures. The combination of sporting challenge, social commitment, and festive atmosphere has made the 6-Hour Run a hallmark of Osnabrück's running culture.
The tenth edition builds on the proven format and enhances it with anniversary specials. The race starts in the morning, lasts for six hours, and is decided by the number of completed laps. Solo runners and teams share the course in a relaxed atmosphere.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure will follow the established key points of previous years:
