Over 470 years of marksmen tradition – the Bürgerschützenfest Rodenberg by and for the citizens of the town
The first documented mention of marksmen in Rodenberg dates back to 1540. This makes the Bürgerschützenfest Rodenberg one of the oldest continuously maintained marksmen traditions in Lower Saxony. In the early modern period, the citizens' marksmen corps was part of the town's defense system; its task was to protect the town and ensure regular weapons practice. Over the centuries, this originally military character has evolved into a multifaceted custom that holds the town together.
The Rodenberg Bürgerschützenfest differs from many club-based marksmen festivals in its open character. It is not the festival of a single club, but the festival of the town's citizenry, supported by the Bürgerschützen Rodenberg in close cooperation with the town. This communal sponsorship shapes the atmosphere: everyone living in Rodenberg is naturally welcome at the festival, and the town embraces the festival days as a whole.
From July 11th to 13th, 2026, the festival will shape the town's image. On Friday, the rides open at 8 PM, on Saturday and Sunday at 2 PM, and on Monday already at 12 PM. The parade on Sunday through the town center is one of the visual highlights. The festival grounds offer a diverse folk festival atmosphere with carousels, food stalls, live music, and the festival tent. The children's marksmen festival on Saturday is specifically aimed at the youngest marksmen, putting them in the spotlight for an afternoon.
The Chief Marksman (Schützenoberst) of the Bürgerschützen is Mr. Grädener, reachable at the phone number 05723/799415. The website www.schuetzenfest-rodenberg.de provides current information on the festival program, the teams, and the preparations.
The 2026 edition continues the centuries-old tradition that has accompanied the Bürgerschützenfest Rodenberg since 1540. The marksmen organize the festival in close cooperation with the town and the showmen.
A special feature is the children's marksmen festival on Saturday, which puts the youngest marksmen in the spotlight for an afternoon. In this way, the club ensures the tradition is passed on to the next generations.
The exact program for 2026 with start times for the individual festival events will be published by the Bürgerschützen Rodenberg in early summer 2026 on the website www.schuetzenfest-rodenberg.de. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
