Pentecost weekend with open cellars in Mülheim an der Mosel
Mülheim is located on a quiet loop of the Mosel between Brauneberg and Lieser. The village is more manageable and less touristy than Bernkastel-Kues, making it a worthwhile destination for wine lovers precisely because of this. The Pentecost Open Cellars Days are Mülheim's most important wine event of the spring and take place concurrently with the major Mosel weekend event, Mythos Mosel.
The participating Mülheim vintners open their courtyards and vaulted cellars over the four Pentecost days. With a festival glass in hand, visitors move from courtyard to courtyard, often in historic buildings with cool cellar vaults. Rieslings from the Mülheim vineyard sites – primarily Mülheim Sonnenlay, Helenenkloster, and Elisenberg – as well as Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, and sparkling wines from individual wineries are tasted. The vintner families usually welcome guests personally and take time to explain the vineyard sites, soil, and vintage.
The courtyards complement the wine service with Mosellan cuisine – Flammkuchen, Spundekäs, Bratwurst, sometimes game dishes or seasonal specialties. Unlike Mythos Mosel, the format is free of charge and accessible: no admission fee, no contingent wristbands, just come by, buy a glass, and start tasting. This makes the event perfect for Mosel vacationers who want to extend their Pentecost weekend with a third or fourth day of visiting courtyards.
On the same days, neighboring villages such as Graach (Open Cellars Days Graach) and Wintrich (Enjoyment Days Wintrich) are also holding courtyard events. Mythos Mosel, located between Kesten and Zeltingen, runs on the later Pentecost weekend. Those who wish to combine several Mosel Pentecost events will find the densest program of courtyard events in the region around Mülheim.
