Scandinavian-inspired Christmas village on the Waffenplatz with Julhus, Glögg, and St. Lucia Procession
The Scandinavian Christmas Village ØLDNBRG is a deliberate addition to the classic Lamberti Market. While the Lamberti Market is traditionally North German in character, ØLDNBRG imports Nordic Advent culture to the Waffenplatz — with its own visual language, its own culinary offerings, and its own atmosphere.
The centerpiece of the Christmas village is the Julhus, a characteristic Scandinavian wooden hut with the typical gable roof, rounded wooden elements, and warm candlelight. The Julhus serves as a meeting and consumption point, creating an 'inside out of doors' experience that has a long tradition in the Nordic winter.
The culinary line follows Scandinavian models. Glögg — the Nordic mulled wine with almonds and raisins — replaces the classic mulled wine. Reindeer sausage, smoked fish, Swedish Kanelbullar (cinnamon buns), Norwegian Lefse, or Finnish Pulla yeast breads are on offer depending on availability. Candles are a central element for atmosphere in the Scandinavian concept.
On December 13th, the St. Lucia Procession takes place — a Swedish Advent tradition where Lucia, wearing a crown of candles, leads a procession of lights through the city. ØLDNBRG has brought this tradition to Oldenburg in cooperation with the Lamberti Market; it has since become a crowd-puller.
The Christmas village explicitly sees itself as a charity project. Donations and events accompany the market, supporting local social projects.
ØLDNBRG and the Lamberti Market complement each other spatially and programmatically. While the Lamberti Market maintains the traditional North German market line on the axis between Rathausmarkt and Schlossplatz, the Waffenplatz offers the Scandinavian variant with ØLDNBRG. Both markets run largely in parallel.
The 2026 edition continues the Scandinavian concept. The exact program around St. Lucia Day and charity events will be published in advance.
