Neighbourhood festival on Jägerstraße with two stages and Bavarian atmosphere
Oktoberfest Lünen-Süd is the autumnal highlight in the event calendar of the southern Lünen district. Unlike the large beer tents of Munich or the off-site Oktoberfests held indoors, the Lünen-Süd Oktoberfest is an open-air neighbourhood festival: Jägerstraße becomes the festival mile, with two stages, amusement rides, food stalls, and a lively atmosphere. The next edition will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026 — organized by the Interessengemeinschaft Lünen-Süd.
The festival concept is spatially distributed to avoid overcrowding and create multiple atmospheres:
Both stages offer a music program — typically a mix of Bavarian bands, cover classics, and party hits. Distributed between the stages are:
The transfer of the Oktoberfest concept from Bavaria to Westphalia has been successful for years — Lederhosen and Dirndls are welcome, but not mandatory. The atmosphere is that of a neighbourhood festival with an Oktoberfest accent: neighbours meet, families come in the afternoon, young adults in the evening, with a lively dancing atmosphere until late at night.
The Lünen-Süd district is located south of the Lippe river and is historically a working-class area — characterized by its former colliery industry and a dense network of clubs. Today, Lünen-Süd is a residential and commercial district with active community engagement. The Interessengemeinschaft Lünen-Süd is the most important local player — it not only organizes the Oktoberfest but also other neighbourhood activities and represents the interests of the business and resident community in the district.
With almost 86,000 inhabitants, Lünen is the largest city in the Unna district (North Rhine-Westphalia) and lies north of Dortmund, at the transition from the Ruhr area to the Münsterland. The city is a classic industrial location undergoing transformation into a service and logistics center. Oktoberfest Lünen-Süd fits into a diverse landscape of neighbourhood festivals that characterize Lünen's club life.
Oktoberfest Lünen-Süd 2026 brings Bavarian festival flair to the southern Lünen district on September 26. Two stages, amusement rides, delicacies, and draft beer turn Jägerstraße into a lively open-air festival mile.
