Traditional village harvest festival with thanksgiving parade and festive stage program
Lübberstedt is located in northwestern Lower Saxony, nestled in an agriculturally characterized landscape between Bremen and the North Sea. The harvest festival has a long tradition in the region and is an expression of the village community's rural roots. While agriculture today directly employs only a few farms, the village community upholds the custom and makes it the common festival of the year.
The highlight of the weekend is the traditional thanksgiving parade on Sunday. Clubs, groups, and residents decorate festival floats with self-chosen themes, often referencing current social, political, or cultural issues. The decoration of the floats begins in the weeks before the festival and has itself become a social activity that holds the village community together. Tractors, horse-drawn carriages, and walking groups accompany the floats as they roll through the village.
Already on Friday and Saturday, the festival tent is filled with live bands, DJ sets, catering, and dancing. Friendly village communities, sports clubs, the fire department, and the shooting club jointly design the program. Saturday evening is traditionally the biggest dance night; on Sunday, the festival concludes after the parade with a joint lunch and Frühschoppen (morning pint).
The Erntefest Lübberstedt is organized in close coordination with the Erntefest Vollersode. Both villages celebrate at the same time, allowing visitors to switch between the locations. This form of cooperation is characteristic of the Samtgemeinde Hambergen and underscores the village cohesion.
Behind the harvest festival is a dedicated committee of volunteers. Tjorben Prigge coordinates the preparations and serves as the central point of contact. Without the voluntary work of the village community, a festival of this magnitude in such a small place would not be possible. The festival is both an expression and a support of the vibrant village community.
Over three days, Lübberstedt transforms into a large festival ground. The festival tent, catering, live music, and dancing characterize the program on Friday and Saturday. Sunday is entirely dedicated to the thanksgiving parade and the communal winding down.
The harvest festival is a project involving many helpers. In the weeks leading up to the festival, the floats are decorated, the festival tent is erected, and the catering is prepared. This joint work is itself part of the festival.
