50th anniversary edition of the largest music and cultural festival in Northwest Germany
With its 50th anniversary, the Stadtfest Oldenburg reaches a special milestone in 2026. What began in 1976 has developed into the largest music and cultural festival in Northwest Germany — a three-day open-air festival that transforms the entire city center of the university town into a stage landscape.
The anniversary motto puts community at the center: 50 summers of Stadtfest are 50 summers of collective memories, concerts danced together, and nights celebrated. For this occasion, the anniversary edition will be extended to two weekends for the first time: from August 20th to 22nd, the classic Stadtfest, and from August 27th to 29th, a dedicated anniversary weekend with comedy, musical, and opera.
More than 70 live bands and 50 DJs will perform on 18 stages. From Schlossplatz and Rathausmarkt to the smaller alleys, pop, rock, indie, electronic, reggae, and world music acts will fill the city center. Each stage has its own character — from the large main stage with a high-caliber headliner program to the intimate acoustic stage in a side street.
The Stadtfest is a crowd-puller with supra-regional appeal. Between 300,000 and 400,000 people come to the city over the three festival days — from Oldenburg, the surrounding area, the entire Northwest, and beyond. Hotels and restaurants experience peak occupancy.
Food trucks and gastronomic stands are spread throughout the city center. In parallel, other events such as the culinary festival "Kochen am Schloss" (Cooking at the Palace) take place on Schlossplatz. This creates a dense mosaic of music, culinary experiences, and urban exploration.
As in previous years, admission to all open-air stages is free. Only special events such as the anniversary weekend (comedy summit, musical, opera night) require tickets.
The 2026 anniversary year brings the largest Stadtfest in its history. The program structure will be fully published by the organizer in spring 2026. The expansion to two weekends, the retention of 18 stages, and a specially curated anniversary program with star guests and surprise acts have already been announced.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring and summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Entire city center of Oldenburg, 18 stages.
Main weekend: Thursday, August 20th to Saturday, August 22nd, 2026. Anniversary weekend: August 27th–29th, 2026 (separate listing).
Free for all open-air stages. Special events require tickets.
