The traditional Sieglar district festival with Sunday shopping and stage program in the heart of Troisdorf
The Ochsenfest Sieglar is the most important district festival of Troisdorf's Sieglar district and is one of the major spring Volksfeste (public festivals) in the Rhein-Sieg district. The 21st edition will take place on Sunday, May 31, 2026 — the organizer is the Sieglarer Marketing Gemeinschaft e.V. (SMG), which has developed the festival as a marketing and identity platform for the district since the 2000s.
A core element of the Ochsenfest is the parallel Sunday shopping: from 1 PM to 6 PM, Sieglar retailers open their doors — fashion, books, gifts, pharmacies, specialty shops. So, anyone who fancies a combination of strolling and festive atmosphere will find the whole package in Sieglar. For retailers, it is one of the most important sales days in spring.
From 12 PM to 9 PM, the Ochsenfest offers a diverse program:
The Ochsenfest originated in the mid-2000s as an attempt by the Sieglar Marketing Community to give the district its own brand event in the shadow of Troisdorf's city center — comparable to what other districts achieve through Kirmes (fair), Schützenfest (marksmen's festival), or Karneval (carnival). The name refers to the traditional roast ox motif of Rhineland Volksfeste, although a real roast ox is no longer a central element today. With several editions annually, the festival has become established.
The Sieglar district is located in the north of Troisdorf, on the Sieg river, and was an independent municipality until the municipal reform in 1969. To this day, Sieglar maintains a strong sense of self-identity with its own clubs, its own carnival parade, and the Ochsenfest as its main anchor. The St. Johannes Church, the Sieg meadows with nature trails, and the historic farmhouses in the town center characterize its charm.
The medium-sized city of Troisdorf, with its approximately 78,000 inhabitants, is located on the Middle Rhine between Bonn and Cologne and is the most populous city in the Rhein-Sieg district. Troisdorf is known for its industrial tradition (explosives and ammunition factory of the Reichswehr, later DAG, now Diversified Industrial), the Bilderbuchmuseum (Picture Book Museum) with International Burg Wissem as a foundation, the Wahner Heide as a European-significant nature reserve, and the Aggua-Bad swimming pool. Its location between Cologne, Bonn, and Siegburg makes Troisdorf a typical commuter belt hub.
The 21st edition of the Ochsenfest Sieglar continues the proven concept: a day that combines a district festival and a shopping event. The main stage features a mix of Rhineland live music and cover bands. Fairground carousels, a bouncy castle, a children's area, and the club mile cater to families. In parallel, Sieglar shops open for Sunday shopping. Free admission.
Free admission. Food €4-12, drinks €3-5, carousel rides €2-4.
By train: S12/S13 to Troisdorf-Spich or Troisdorf, then bus 503/505 to Sieglar. By car: A59 exit Troisdorf, follow signs for Sieglar. Temporary road closures in the town center on the festival day — parking in surrounding streets.
Free admission. Food, drinks, and rides at usual Volksfest prices.
If you're interested in Sunday shopping, come between 1 PM and 4 PM — the shops will be busy, and the festival is family-friendly during the day. If you want the full stage program and the Rhineland Volksfest atmosphere, come in the afternoon from 4 PM onwards.
