Middle-distance triathlon on the North German coast with junior competition
The NordseeMan & NordseeWoman Triathlon has established itself as one of the most important triathlon events on the Lower Saxony North Sea coast. With multiple distances, a junior competition, and good infrastructure at the Pumpwerk area, the event attracts athletes from all over Germany annually. The courses utilize Wilhelmshaven's geographical features – swimming takes place in the Großer Hafen (Great Harbour) or a protected area, cycling leads through the open marsh landscape, and running along the Wadden Sea.
The middle distance, with 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling, and 21.1 km running, is the core format of the event. It corresponds to the international Half Distance or "Ironman 70.3". In addition, the Olympic distance (1.5 km / 40 km / 10 km), a relay competition for teams of three, and a shorter sprint distance for beginners are offered. The 19th Junior NordseeMan competition is aimed at the youngest generation of athletes with adapted distances. The event is part of the Navy Tri Cup, a series of competitions in conjunction with the German Navy.
The organizer is TSR Olympia Wilhelmshaven e.V., one of the largest sports clubs in the region with a long triathlon tradition. Registration has been open since October 2025 – early registration is mandatory as starting places are limited. The event is listed in the German Triathlon Federation's event calendar for August 2026. Professional timing, aid stations along the courses, and an experienced team of volunteers ensure a smooth process.
The 2026 edition continues the tradition of the Wilhelmshaven triathlon. Registration opened back in October 2025, underscoring the high demand and the event's strong reputation.
Inclusion in the Navy Tri Cup highlights the close connection between the Wilhelmshaven triathlon and the German Navy.
