The Schlosshofhockete Großengstingen is a traditional two-day village festival held in one of the region's most beautiful event spaces: the castle courtyard of Großengstingen. In 2026, the Hockete will take place on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, 2026. The organizers are the community of Großengstingen clubs — the music association, sports club, traditional costume association, church choir, and other local communities, who jointly provide catering, programming, and a festive atmosphere.

„Hockete" — The Swabian Term for Festival

The Swabian word „Hockete" describes a classic village or club festival with the character of a convivial get-together: not a highly choreographed festival with large stages, but an open gathering with comfortable seating, club catering, and musical accompaniment. The Hockete is the Swabian equivalent of the Bavarian Volksfest or the Franconian Kirchweih — typical for the Swabian Jura and northern Württemberg.

The Großengstingen Castle Courtyard is a historic courtyard that lends a special touch to the festival. The walls, the interior, and the historical atmosphere make the Hockete more than just a village festival — you sit among old stones, listen to brass music from the music association, and enjoy Swabian specialties in a setting that exudes centuries of history.

Swabian Catering and Music Program

The Großengstingen clubs manage the Hockete with Swabian-Alemannic specialties: Bratwurst from the grill, Schnitzel, Maultaschen, Spätzle, Fries, accompanied by beer on tap, cider, regional wines, and non-alcoholic beverages. In the afternoon, there's coffee and homemade cakes from the club ladies. The musical program is usually provided by the Großengstingen Music Association or friendly brass bands — morning pint on Sunday, evening performances on Saturday.

Engstingen (Reutlingen district, approx. 5,500 inhabitants) is located on the central Swabian Jura, south of Reutlingen and west of Münsingen. The municipality consists of the districts of Großengstingen, Kleinengstingen, and Kohlstetten. Großengstingen — the central district — is home to the castle courtyard and gives the festival its name. Its location on the Jura plateau (approx. 720 m altitude) makes Engstingen a typical Upper Jura municipality with clear air, meadows, and Alemannic-Swabian culture.
