"Light Art Meets Poetic Art" – three evenings of light installations, fire shows, and stilt walkers in the winter palace garden
For years, Nordlichter has been a firm fixture in Celle's event calendar. For three evenings, the Celle Palace Garden around the famous Welfenschloss is transformed into a grand spectacle of light. Thousands of lanterns, illuminated trees, projected light scenes, and large-format light installations create an atmosphere rarely found at other events in Lower Saxony.
The 2026 edition is under the motto "Light Art Meets Poetic Art". Light projections are combined with literary quotes, poetry, and texts – a format that turns the palace garden into a walkable collection of poems.
Nordlichter is explicitly designed as a family festival: the park gradually darkens, the lights slowly intensify their effect, and many stations are particularly exciting for children. Admission is free; catering services in the park complement the offerings.
Nordlichter 2026 will take place over three consecutive evenings: Friday, February 27, Saturday, February 28, and Sunday, March 1, 2026. Opening hours will be from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM each day.
The 2026 motto is "Light Art Meets Poetic Art". In the palace garden, light art installations will be combined with poetry, quotes, and literary references.
