Stadtfest with Harvest Festival theme, Rocktober stages and Sunday shopping
While the Maikirmes and the Wasserstadt Weekend shape the summer calendar, the Nordhorner Oktober takes over the autumn role in the city's event profile. Under the motto "Erntedank" (Harvest Festival), the festival focuses on regional producers, crafts, and stage music, celebrating the harvest season with a program that clearly distinguishes itself from classic beer tent Oktoberfests.
Saturday, September 26th, runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as regular market operations with crafts, food manufacturers, and gastronomy. From 6 p.m., Rocktober begins with several stages in the city center. Live bands play rock programs ranging from cover classics to their own songs, and the festival mile gains a concert atmosphere that lasts late into the night.
Sunday, September 27th, runs from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and combines the festival program with Sunday shopping in the city center. Shops open their doors, present their autumn collections, and complement the market program with shopping strolls.
A flea market and arts and crafts stalls are spread along the festival mile. Bargains, books, crockery, small furniture, and vintage items are offered, as well as handmade jewelry, ceramics, textiles, and glasswork. This gives the festival a broad range of offerings that cater to various collector and gift interests.
VVV Nordhorn has been organizing the festival for years and supports it with its over 200 members from trade and gastronomy. The close integration of the city center economy and the festival program is one of the strengths of the concept and ensures a high level of identification within the city.
The combination of a traditional "Erntedank" (Harvest Festival) city festival and a Rocktober concert program is the strength of the concept. While the daytime operations with regional products appeal to a tradition-oriented audience, the evening with live music attracts a younger audience.
Sunday shopping combines the festival program and the city center economy. Shops benefit from the festival audience, and festival visitors benefit from the complete city center offering.
