Traditional Kirchweih on the 2nd weekend of September in the historic center of Nieder-Ingelheim
The Nieder-Ingelheim Kerb is one of the most traditional folk festivals in the red wine city of Ingelheim am Rhein. It takes place every year on the second weekend of September and attracts guests from all districts and the wider Rheinhessen region.
The venue is the historic center of Nieder-Ingelheim around the Saalkirche, the former center of Charlemagne's imperial palace. Festival tents are set up here, stages are erected, and stalls for food, drinks, and sweets are opened. The hosts and clubs of the district significantly shape the character of the festival.
The culinary offerings are classically Rheinhessen: Bratwurst and steaks from the grill, Spundekäs and Handkäs mit Musik, Flammkuchen, fries, and sweet specialties such as almonds and roasted chestnuts. However, the focus is on the wine of the Ingelheim vintners, especially the namesake red wine, which has been grown here for centuries.
On the three festival days, a varied stage program with live bands, DJ performances, and club presentations ensures a lively atmosphere. Traditional program points include the festive tapping of the first beer keg at the opening on Friday evening, Family Day on Sunday, and the Club Evening on Monday. Amusement rides, shooting galleries, and sweet stalls complete the festival grounds in the style of a classic Rheinhessen Kerb.
The Nieder-Ingelheim Kerb is an important meeting point for the district's population and a social event that combines the tradition of Kirchweih with modern festival activities. Visitors from outside experience an authentic piece of Rheinhessen festival culture here in a historically significant setting.
The 2026 edition continues the long-standing tradition of the Nieder-Ingelheim Kerb. The focus is on the wine of the Ingelheim vintners, especially the namesake red wines. Clubs from the district host guests, a varied stage program provides entertainment, and amusement rides make the Kerb attractive for families too.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the spring and summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: tapping of the first beer keg and opening on Friday evening, festival activities on Saturday with live music, and Family Day on Sunday.
