Advent enjoyment market in the historic courtyards of Neustadt's old town on all four Advent weekends
Neustadt an der Weinstraße preserves a multitude of historic residential and commercial courtyards in the heart of its old town, which are normally hidden away. For the Weihnachtszauber, three of these courtyards open up: the Rathausinnenhof as the formal setting, the Hof der Vizedomei with its historic charm, and the Michel'sche Hof as a cozy enclave. Lighting, fir branches, wooden huts, and fire pits create a warm Advent atmosphere that deliberately stands apart from the hustle and bustle of the large Christmas market.
The culinary standard is at the heart of the Weihnachtszauber. Slow Food manufacturers from the Palatinate, Vorder- und Südpfalz, Alsace, and neighboring regions offer handmade specialties: raw milk cheese, cured meats from old breeds, game dishes, jams, honey, wild herbs, wood-fired breads, pralines, and Palatinate Christmas cookies. Palatinate vintners serve mulled wine and sparkling wine.
Additionally, craftswomen and designers present jewelry, ceramics, textiles, woodwork, prints, and gift ideas that differ from industrial mass-produced goods. The Weihnachtszauber sees itself as a curated market with a focus on quality.
Typical Palatinate specialties include gingerbread from regional bakeries, roasted chestnuts, Federweißer mulled wine, 'Glühriesling' (mulled Riesling), Saumagen patties, and wintery Flammkuchen variations. On weekends, there are also small musical performances in the courtyards—from string quartets and wind ensembles to singer-songwriter acoustic sessions.
The 2026 edition runs parallel to the large Kunigunde Christmas market on the market square and offers a quieter, culinarily focused alternative. The courtyards are atmospherically lit, with wooden huts and standing tables creating meeting points. Some exhibitors change from weekend to weekend, making repeat visits worthwhile.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the city of Neustadt an der Weinstraße in November 2026 on neustadt.eu. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of previous years:
Admission is free. Food, drinks, and products are paid for individually at the stalls. A standard deposit or cup fee applies to mulled wine and Glühriesling.
Neustadt an der Weinstraße is ideally accessible by train; the town center is a few minutes' walk from the main station. By car, take the A65 motorway, exit Neustadt-Süd or -Nord; parking garages are available in the town center (Stadthaus, Hetzelgalerie).
On all 4 Advent weekends in 2026: Friday 3:00 PM–9:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday 11:00 AM–9:00 PM.
Admission is free. Food, drinks, and crafts are paid for at the stalls.
Family-friendly, with children's punch and small hands-on activities at some stalls. Dogs on a leash are welcome.
The market can be easily combined with a visit to the large "Kunigunde" Christmas market on the market square.
