Two-day club festival on the Starzel — community festival of the Neufra clubs in the Sigmaringen district
On the last weekend of July, the club community of Hohenzollern's Neufra invites you to the village festival. It's one of those classic Swabian village festivals where the entire local club life comes together to celebrate for two days. Unlike large commercial festivals, here the village community itself is the organizer — the music club, sports club, fire brigade, heritage club, and clubs like the rural youth organize the festival alternately. In Neufra, you'll find a festival that isn't made for tourists, but for its own community — and that's precisely why it feels so authentic.
The venue is the festival grounds on the Starzel, the small stream that flows through the village. The festival tent is set up here, with a stage, long beer garden tables, and club stalls all around. The location on the outskirts of the village, overlooking the rolling hills of the Hohenzollern Donaubergland, gives the festival a relaxed, rural atmosphere. On pleasant summer evenings, guests often sit outside the tent with a beer or Swabian wine.
The typical schedule of a Swabian-Hohenzollern village festival has evolved over the years: Saturday evening begins with a concert, often featuring the local brass band or invited bands from neighboring communities, followed by a dance or cover band that keeps the audience entertained late into the night. Sunday starts with a "Frühschoppen" concert (morning pint concert), followed by the traditional Sunday lunch with Swabian-Hohenzollern specialties — bratwurst, Maultaschen with salad, Bauernschmaus (farmer's feast), Saitenwürste (sausages). In the afternoon, another band plays, along with coffee and cake.
The individual clubs each take over one area of the festival: the music club provides the stage program and serves drinks on Sunday, the fire brigade manages the bratwurst stand, the sports club runs the grill and the cake buffet, and the rural youth manage the cocktail bar. This creates a festival concept where each village group contributes and simultaneously works for its club's finances — the proceeds go towards the clubs' youth work.
The municipality of Neufra, with around 1,800 inhabitants, is located in the southeastern district of Sigmaringen, in the Hohenzollern part of Baden-Württemberg, at the transition from the Swabian Jura to the Danube Valley. It is known for its 16th-century Renaissance castle and its location on the Danube-Zollernalb road. Visitors to the village festival often combine it with a tour of the Hohenzollern region — Sigmaringen Castle, Beuron, Danube Gorge.
According to the municipal event calendar, the Neufra Village Festival 2026 will be celebrated on the weekend of July 25–26. As usual, the local clubs will set up the festival tent at the Starzel festival grounds, supplemented by club stalls, a bar, and a children's play area. The Neufra Music Club will kick things off on Saturday evening with a concert, followed by an invited dance band. Sunday will start with a "Frühschoppen" concert, followed by lunch and an afternoon program.
All local clubs will jointly provide catering — you can get classic Swabian-Hohenzollern festival dishes at club prices, along with regional beer and wine.
