Neighbourhood Day as a European Tradition

The Neighbourhood Day — also known as European Neighbours Day — is a Europe-wide initiative celebrated in many cities since the late 1990s. The goal is to bring neighbours together, reduce anonymity, and strengthen awareness of the immediate social environment. In Frankenthal, the day in 2026 will be linked to a special occasion in the Pilgerpfad district: the opening of the new community garden.

The New Community Garden

Community gardens are a central instrument of contemporary neighbourhood work. They create a social meeting point, promote environmental awareness, give people without their own gardens the opportunity to garden, and produce food right on their doorstep. Such a garden has been established in the Pilgerpfad district and will be officially opened on May 29, 2026. Mayor Dr. Nicolas Meyer will cut the symbolic ribbon and hand over the garden to the neighbourhood community.

Participatory Activities at Jakobsplatz

Jakobsplatz will become the festival grounds for the residents. Participatory activities appeal to all generations: Giant Connect Four — the XL version of the classic — brings fun for children and adults. Cornhole, the throwing game originating from the USA, has a growing fan base in Germany. Pedal boats are a fun challenge for skill and coordination.

The event is supported by the Pilgerpfad Interest Group (IG Pilgerpfad) together with the Protestant Church and the Pilgerpfad Children and Youth Centre. This broad sponsorship demonstrates the diverse club landscape of the district and the joint commitment to a vibrant neighbourhood life.

Pilgerpfad is a well-established Frankenthal neighbourhood with a lively community. The district combines historically grown residential structures with modern living forms and an active club scene. The Neighbourhood Day is an occasion to experience the district in its vibrancy and to enable new encounters.
