The Naheweinfest Obermoschel in September – large wine festival parade and stalls in the old town alleys of the historic Palatinate town at the transition to the Nahe region.
The Naheweinfest Obermoschel is the major wine festival of the Palatinate town of Obermoschel in the northern Donnersbergkreis. Obermoschel is located in the Alsenztal valley, on the southern edge of the Nahe wine-growing region, and is considered the northernmost representative of Palatinate wine culture. Its location at the transition from the Palatinate to the Nahe wine region gives the festival its name – even though Obermoschel itself administratively belongs to the Palatinate.
The venue is the historic market square of Obermoschel with its half-timbered houses, the town hall, and the surrounding old town alleys. The small town with around 1,000 inhabitants is a gem and offers a special backdrop for a traditional wine festival. Stalls of vintners, clubs, and gastronomy are spread throughout the alleys, creating an intimate, village-like festival atmosphere.
The highlight of the festival is the grand wine festival parade on Sunday afternoon. Floats with wine motifs, traditional costume groups, music bands, clubs, and wine royalty – including the local Wine Queen and, if applicable, queens from neighboring towns – parade through the town. The parade is the culmination of a multi-day festival and an attraction for visitors from the entire Donnersbergkreis and adjacent districts.
The focus, of course, is on wine: Palatinate wines and Nahe wines from the vineyards around Obermoschel are served – Rieslings, Burgundies, red wines, Federweißer (new wine) in autumn. These are accompanied by classic Palatinate wine festival specialties: Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), cheese platters, Schmalzbrote (lard bread), and sweet pastries.
Obermoschel, with the former Landsberg Castle, is the smallest town in the Donnersbergkreis and looks back on a long history. The Naheweinfest, along with the vintage wine tasting in May, is the central date in the town's event calendar and an important attraction for tourism in the region.
The Naheweinfest 2026 continues the annual tradition. The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
