Night of the Museums Oldenburg

The Night of the Museums is the central cultural night of the city of Oldenburg. On a September Saturday, the most important museums and art galleries open their doors far beyond regular opening hours — and with free admission. This creates an evening cultural experience that showcases the entire spectrum of Oldenburg's museum landscape.

Participating Museums

Regular participants include, among others:

• Horst-Janssen-Museum: dedicated to the Oldenburg artist and graphic designer Horst Janssen
• Stadtmuseum Oldenburg: city and regional history
• Edith-Russ-Haus for Media Art: contemporary media art and digital art
• Landesmuseum for Art and Cultural History Oldenburg: art and cultural history of the Northwest, with locations at Oldenburg Castle, Augusteum, Prinzenpalais
• Other museums, galleries, and art initiatives depending on the program

Special Program 6 PM to Midnight

Instead of just regular exhibitions, the venues offer a special program: short guided tours, workshop talks, hands-on activities, concerts, performances, and readings. Many program points are planned compactly, allowing visitors to visit several venues throughout the evening.

Free Admission

Free admission is a central element of the Night of the Museums. The city consciously lowers the barrier to museum visits — many guests discover venues they might not have visited otherwise.

Atmosphere and Appeal

The Night of the Museums develops a special pull every year. Families, students, older guests, and tourists come to the city center, shaping an evening cityscape where culture is visibly present.

Organizer Structure

The organizer is the City of Oldenburg in cooperation with the participating venues. Coordination is handled by the city's cultural administration.
