Three days of city festival in the historic heart of East Frisia's oldest town
Norden is the oldest town in East Frisia – first mentioned in documents in 1255, its history likely dates back much further. The historic town center with its mighty market square, the Gothic Ludgerikirche church, and the Schöninghschen Haus is among the most beautiful in Northern Germany. The Norder Sommerfest uses this setting to celebrate the town's identity while simultaneously strengthening tourism, gastronomy, and retail in the town.
The Sommerfest is spread across several venues in the city center:
The musical program is broadly diverse: Cover bands from Northern Germany alternate with local heroes on the main stage, with DJs taking over late in the evening. The side stage on Neuer Weg focuses on rock, pop, and hits from the 80s and 90s. Acoustic sets in courtyards round off the offering. Especially in the late evening hours, a special atmosphere arises as the city lights merge with the music and the relaxed summer mood.
The Sommerfest is explicitly designed to be family-friendly. During the day, the funfair area with its carousel, bumper cars, and Ferris wheel offers a classic fairground atmosphere, complemented by a children's stage program with clowns, magicians, and a kids' disco. Several Norden clubs – from sports clubs to the volunteer fire brigade – participate with their own stands, hands-on activities, and culinary offerings. The Sunday shopping event adds an economic dimension to the festival and brings additional visitor flows to Norden's businesses.
The 2026 Sommerfest continues the proven concept. The town of Norden and Norder Stadtmarketing are organizing the festival in cooperation with numerous clubs, businesses, and restaurateurs.
The detailed 2026 program (band list, times) will be published by Norder Stadtmarketing in the summer of 2026. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Norder Marktplatz, Westerstraße, Osterstraße, Neuer Weg, Ludgerikirchplatz (26506 Norden).
